This means the Northwest name will cease to exist as part of the U.S. aviation industry. 2008 has, thus far, been one of the most interesting years for the airline industries. The merger was announced a mere 5 hours ago and already analysts are predicting an announcement from UAL/Continental camp about a proposed merger.
