Feeling Better

Today, I am finally feeling better. I have been fighting this cold/flu since July 18th. BLAH! I think sleeping at the cabin last night and breathing cool mountain air helped a ton.

I am less then one week away from hiking to the highest point in Colorado. I feel a little set back from my illness.

My good friend Rebecka has started a blog. Rebecka is one of two people that I am still in contact with from high school. The other is Martin.

Big August Plans

Angela and I will be ascending to the summit of Mount Elbert. At 14,443 feet Mount Elbert is the tallest peak in Colorado. In addition to the hike we will camp the night before and the night after. I have not gone tent camping in over a decade. I am thrilled. I think our experience at the cabin last weekend really inspired us to get back into the mountains and enjoy them while they are still there.

A day after returning from our camping/hiking expedition I am going to jet off to New York City to visit Flowerhead for a couple of days.

I think August will be a fantastic month in the life of Pat.

The Cabin

Just got back from three days at the cabin. That statement sounds so Minnesotan to me. Very relaxing. Makes me want to hike a 14er.

Moby Play

While riding my bike yesterday the song Rushing began to play on my ipod. I immediately had this weird sort of flashback reaction. This album instantly brings me back to 1999. It makes me think of the UofM campus under butt loads of snow. It makes me think of Rebecka Medin's black Jetta. It makes me think of my new career at United Airlines and how proud I was to work for them. It makes me think of Pandora's Coffee House in Uptown Minneapolis. I have and always will adore this album. It means so much to me.

Dating is for fucktards

So, I met this dude on the internets yesterday, and we decided to meet up. We chatted on the phone for a bit and he explained his displeasure with the gay community. Quite frankly, I could give two shits about the gay community. I find it narrow minded and petty to be concerned with the "gay community." We should all be concerned with the global community or the local community as a whole not little snippets or factions. Anywho, he goes on to tell me how gay men don't make good friends. I sort of agree, but I have been very lucky in the gay friend department. I just got the impression that my new friend did not have a lot of gay friends. No, wait! I didn't get the impression I was told by him "I really only hang out with straight people." Whatever dude! So, we agree to meet at Dazbog coffee in capital hill. I was not thrilled with his selection in coffee venues but oh well. This particular Dazbog is like the gay caffeine mecca. This is the place to go if you want a little coffee with your gay.

I show up and find him chatting with a couple of dudes. We officially meet. He introduces me to his two gay friends. And the big fat circle of conversation begins and continues for an hour. We spent an entire hour talking about gay issues. I am so gayed out! Meanwhile anyone that walked by would have to stop and say hi to my "date" because everyone knew him. You should have seen this scene last night. What a cluster fuck. We had the busiest table in the entire joint. Over the course of the hour I learned that he was very active in the gay community. The same community he shunned merely hours earlier. I don't get it.

I really believe that I am a complete and utter dating failure. Things are not always what they seem. About once a year I get a crazy hair up my ass and go on a couple of dates. I just feel awkward and retarded. Clearly I am better off being single. I am much happier here!

I don't digg that shit no more

So I have exchanged digg for del.icio.us. I have played with both of the social bookmarking sites and have decided that del.icio.us is much more user friendly. I still have a digg account, but from here on out I will be social bookmarking on del.icio.us. My brother and I had a digg vs. del.icio.us vs. reddit conversation a while back, but I was inexperienced and uninformed about social bookmarking. So, Micheal I would have to say del.icio.us is the superior site.

Considering a domain change

I am trying to decide if I want to invest $10 to purchase a domain and become lifeofpat.com or patrickcunnien.com. I have not spent a penny on this blog, and I have been blogging on it for 3 years, so a $10 investment would not be that tragic. I cannot decide which sounds better...

lifeofpat.com

or

patrickcunnien.com

err. I'll think about it for a few days.

Steve Inskeep

This is the guy I listen to on my way to work every morning. He is Steve Inskeep from NPR's Morning Edition. He kind of annoys me. He seems a bit pompous and arrogant. I like it when Renee Montagne fills in for him. One morning on my way to work I almost turned around to go home because I felt so ill listening to Steve Inskeep. I must admit, I was not expecting Steve Inskeep to be as attractive as he is. Bugger!

It's never too late...

To hunt, arrest and prosecute Nazis. I think this is great! I hope they catch this asshole. The man has been on the run for 63 years! I think it would be fitting for him to die at the hands of a dark haired, gay, Jew.

I really had no idea who this Cazwell character was. Am I alone here? I guess he is some NYC pop star.

Term of the day: Bromance

Bromance. Urban Dictionary defines Bromance as... The complicated love and affection shared by two straight males or A non-sexual relationship between two men that are unusually close. Finally there is a term to describe this phenomenon. I think Preston had a man crush on me. I liked the idea of someone having a man crush on me, but I didn't necessarily share the same enthusiastic feelings for him that he had for me. This would be considered a one sided bromance. I can safely say that Kaiya's current boyfriend does not have a man crush on me. We clearly do not have a bromance in our future.

The 17th Avenue Hop & Flowerama

I have fallen in love, again, with Washington Park. I have been riding my bicycle there lately. Its almost a spiritual experience for me when I go to that park. I did 7 laps (14 miles) on my bicycle around the loop and then decided to sit and enjoy the replica of Martha Washington's garden and Mount Vernon. While I sat and enjoyed the spectacular garden (this has been a very good year for flowers in Denver) I decided to go home get my camera and go on a park and flower tour and snap some pictures... how gay I know!

Angi joined me at Alamo Placita Park which is just across Speer Boulevard from my apartment. I snapped some great pictures of the plant life.

Afterwards, Angi and I helped Gail walk Oscar Odell a very sweet, 14 year old, red Doberman.

We put the old man back and headed to Gail's to drink on her front stoop. It was very "Sex and the City" without the sex.

Since I have placed myself on severe budget restrictions I have not been eating out or "going out" at all. Lately, when anyone have asked me to eat out I cross my fingers in the shape of an X and run screaming from them. Well last night the planets aligned and I ate out for the first time since May 23rd! Angi and I met Ruth and her new friend Agnes, who is fabulous, at Lime on 6th Avenue. It was taco Tuesday night. What a raging deal. I had a margarita, 3 tacos and a ton of their really good house chips for $8. What a steal!

Mindy is in town managing the transition of renters moving out of and into her unit. Her, Susan and I walked the 2.7 miles from the Emerson Plaza to the Thin Man. Thin Man is one of my favorite bars in Denver, but I have to admit it has been a while since I have been there. There was a slight bit of a douche bag crust in there last night. It was very packed for a Tuesday night. I asked the cute bartender, with awesome hair, to whom I have a girl crush on why it was so packed she shrugged and said "summer, I guess." Hello people... the economy is in the tank. Don't you have jobs? Whatever, I still love that bar. We had a couple mixed berry sours and then stumbled down 17th avenue towards downtown. We had a quick peach sangria at P17. I had not been to P17 in like 4 years. We ended our evening at the tavern uptown.

On our way back to the hood we grabbed a slice at Benny Blancos. There pizza is so good! Benny Blancos is on the corner of 13th and an alley. Back in my Capital Hill days I lived 1/2 an alley away from Benny's. I called for delivery one night and they refused to deliver because I was so close. WTF?? I guess it was principal.

Question: Whats worse than a wood paneled PT Cruiser?

Answer:

This was parked in front of the retirement home high rise a block from my apartment.
